Honest praise and recognition is a huge boost for your child’s self-esteem. Parents should know what their child’s strengths are and praise them often for accomplishments.
Recognition from parents is the most important recognition kids want, so show them by displaying their pictures and paintings, their writing papers, their A+ homework papers, their stories and trophies. Don’t give false praise for things that are not recognition worthy. If they finish last in a race don’t tell them they we’re the best. If they receive a C in math don’t tell them they are the best math student in class.
Give your child praise and encouragement when it’s deserved so they begin to see themselves in a positive way, so when they begin to struggle in other areas of their life they will remember the positive recognition you gave them to help them through those struggles.
