Excellence Is An Act?

excellenceBlack Belt is often a level that people stop training.  They believe that they have achieved a certain goal and that’s the end of the game. It would be like a baseball player being signed to pro level and quitting the very next day. Doesn’t make much sense does it? This not only exists in the martial arts but in life as well.

Have you or someone you know got into really good shape and than just stopped because life got busy? Have you known someone who understood a particular topic and then quit keeping up with it? What about daily habits like reading 10 minutes a day, doing 20 push-ups a day, eating healthy daily, doing 1 random act of kindness for someone a day? All of these acts were becoming habits but soon fell off the radar.

We stopped doing these acts because we became bored with them and replaced it with something else or stopped seeing dramatic results from them and moved on.

Assignment: Think back to something you used to do but no longer do.  Why did you stop and do you have and regrets for not continuing?

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit.” – Aristotle
